Pick Up Your GW U•Pass Card 11/29-12/3

November 19, 2021

Hello Students,

You advocated for the U•Pass program, noting that it can help provide affordable transportation options and we’ve partnered with Metro to make this happen! We are excited to offer full-time students enrolled in fall 2021 the opportunity to participate in a free trial from Dec. 1 - 22.

Earlier this month, the university announced the new partnership with Metro’s U•Pass program to provide eligible full-time students with unlimited use of Metrorail and Metrobus for a discounted, flat fee.

To participate in GW’s U•Pass program you will need to show your student GWorld card and pick-up a physical U•Pass Metro SmartTrip Card. Even if you have your own personal SmartTrip Card, you will need a separate unique card for this program.

Please Note! A new permanent card will need to be picked-up for the official start of the spring program. The card you pick-up in spring 2022 will cover that year as long as you are enrolled as a full-time student. Dates and times for card distribution to use U•Pass during the spring 2022 semester will be announced by mid-December.

Starting spring 2022, GW U•Pass will be a subsidized mandatory student fee. Metro charges GW $1 per day during the semester per enrolled full-time student. All eligible full-time students will pay a $100 mandatory student transportation fee each fall and spring when they are enrolled, and GW will fund the remainder of the program’s cost. More details will be shared in the upcoming weeks.

We hope that you are as excited as we are to implement this new partnership. As we continue to launch this program, we will provide updates and information on the GW U•Pass webpage. If you have questions, please email [email protected].
